Looking at Senior Living for Tomorrow

Culture Change in Nursing Homes

Although The Nursing Home Reform Act passed in 1987, established residents' rights and quality standards for nursing homes nationwide, serious concerns remain about quality of care and quality of life for nursing home residents. The "culture change" movement is working to radically transform nursing home care, and help facilities transition from institutions to home. This document presents results from the Commonwealth Fund 2007 National Survey of Nursing Homes, fielded to examine the penetration of the culture change movement at the national level and measure the extent to which nursing homes are adopting culture change principles and practicing resident-centered care. Results are mixed, with much room for improvement. The survey highlights important lessons, including the finding that the more a nursing home has adopted culture change principles, the greater the benefits that accrue to it, in terms of staff retention, higher occupancy rates, better competitive position, and improved operational costs.

Hi, And Welcome to Culture Change, a New Paradigm for Senior Living

Hello, and welcome. This is a New Blog and we are just learning all the in's & outs to this process.

But we would like to give a quick overview of who we are along with some of our background.

The Baldwin Architectural Group

The topic of this Blog will be about the design and overview for what a "Culture Change Nursing Home" is in today's Elder Care Market. Our goal is to provide the best Architectural design that will truly help our Seniors improve or at least have as positive experience as possible in a Senior Care environment.

Background

We utilized our design & construction skills in determining the full potential on the projects that we are designing. We have the ability to study land locations to derive all the zoning, land constraints and building mass that will be allowed. Sometimes rezoning is required. This is a very important aspect in matching the zoning to the potential project. All of this is undertaken by doing conceptual sketches & design studies in order to determine the highest & best use of the property. We also can handle all the Due Diligence required on these properties. During this process decisions are made about the Project and whether it is economically viable. We can also break down the project into its potential monetary return to assist in project planning. It is really the basis to why we do what we do. We have been in the Architectural & Development Industry for more than 30 years and it has brought many insights into what is a very difficult field and one that many have lost much more than they ever thought possible. Our desire is to keep others out of those pitfalls that are always looming around the next bend.

So taking the Project from conception up to completion and turnover to the end user with all the steps in between is where we are working today. It means a total involvement and not just the Architectural or Engineering work but managing the project from conception to completion.
